Trained in Advanced Endoscopy from Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf under Prof. Nib Soehendra & Prof. Kenneth Binemoeller, Dr. Vipulroy Rathod has been in clinical practice in Mumbai since 1998. He had the unique opportunity to pioneer and mainstream Diagnostic & Interventional Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) in South Asia. Apart from 80,000+ diagnostic & therapeutic endoscopic procedures & ERCP, he has performed 20,000+ EUS procedures including 8500+ Interventional EUS procedures, giving him the largest individual experience of EUS in the Indian Subcontinent for both adult & paediatric patients. In addition to his vast practical experience, he has trained more than 450 aspiring Gastroenterologists and Endoscopists from 35 countries and has represented India in over 50 countries as International Faculty, delivering more than 2000 lectures in Advanced Endoscopy. In 2006, he was invited as visiting faculty to Yale University, School of Medicine.
Dr Rathod is the Past Secretary & President of the Society Of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI). He is currently serving as Director of Gastroenterology at Fortis Hospital Mulund in Mumbai.
It is Dr Rathod's vision to uplift the quality of diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases and democratise access to quality healthcare. To this effect, he founded Dr Rathod Medical Foundation in 2004 which has been working to educate doctors across India and provide subsidised treatment for the underprivileged. In 2018, Dr Rathod was named the ICON in Gastroenterology by Mid-day and for two years consecutively in 2020 & 2021, WGI was ranked the #1 Stand-alone Hospital for Gastroenterology in India by the Times Health Survey.
